about

This song is from our theatrical project THE GOLDEN SPIKE. The piece is about the Transcontinental Railroad and explores issues of industrialization, immigration, and what it means to be called "American.” "Golden Mountain" was what Chinese workers called America when they traveled to the west in search of gold. We wrote this song as an anthem for the marginalized dreamers of the past, present, and future.

lyrics

I've been lost
With a blind eye
I've been lost
To the mountainside

I have heard
Of the gentle stream
I have heard
Of the sparrow's dream

In the cave
Where I've spent my life
In the cave
There was not a light

I will climb
To the top of the peak
I will climb
To where the sparrow meets
The sky

High above
Where the sun kisses me
High above
In this majesty

I can be
Like the sparrow dance
I can be
A greater man

The heart that soars is as good as gold
